EBRS is led by Karl Ellis, who is a reward specialist and a Chartered Member of the CIPD, with more than 15 years of broad HR experience.
Before launching EBRS, Karl led the pay and reward team in the HR consulting arm of Smith & Williamson, a highly respected financial services company. He worked nationally with clients in the private and not-for-profit sectors, providing practical advice and helping them to establish and maintain effective reward strategies.
Prior to this, Karl worked for Lloyds TSB, first as an HR Business Partner specialising in policies and projects, then coordinating C&G's annual salary review and flexible benefits processes.
He also has extensive NHS and local government experience, having advised managers on contractual matters, re-organisations, job evaluation and generalist HR issues.
Passionate about reward
You can be assured of quality advice and support when you work with EBRS.
Karl is passionate about helping organisations succeed with reward. He has spoken at numerous seminars and addressed a CIPD West of England branch event, offering practical advice on aspects of reward practice.
While at Smith & Williamson he contributed an expert interview on the benchmarking of executive pay for Knowledge Peers, an advice network for people who run growth businesses in the UK. View the interview on their website.
Over recent years, Karl has work closely with a range of registered providers in the housing sector, helping them with job evaluation, pay benchmarking and reward strategy. His experience in the sector led to him devising Smith & Williamson’s Housing Association Executive Reward Survey, which has won praise for its clarity and usefulness from HR executives and Boards.
He has also worked closely with employer groups, leading the redesign of Community Housing Cymru’s HR Performance Benchmarking Survey and speaking about the findings at their HR conference. He has also been a regular speaker on HR matters at seminars run across the country by the RSL Network, a dedicated network for individuals responsible for the effective functioning of housing associations.
Access to the expertise of others as needed
As well as handling and interpreting large volumes of pay and survey data, the EBRS team is accustomed to dealing with a broad range of HR matters. If a project needs specific HR or financial services expertise that we can't help with, then we'll say - we can usually call on the advice of someone who can provide the answer.
Dealing with your data accurately and carefully
Numbers, data, spreadsheets... three words that strike fear into many HR people! Even if you aren't afraid of pay models, the chances are that you struggle to find the time you'd like to spend on getting them right.
At EBRS, we actually enjoy working with numbers, but we don't lose sight of the fact that the data we handle represents real people, their jobs and their livelihoods. Rest assured that we will deal with your data accurately and sensitively, taking account of the impact that any proposals would have on your employees.
